What few people know is that this line actually originated in Europe in 1988 as a trendier alternative to the Red Tab line but was discontinued 2 years later in 1990 because of poor success. In 1991 Levi's US revived SilverTab, then at the forefront of the baggy trend that defined late-’80s and ’90s. The original SilverTab logo was the Silver Medal as is found on the original guarantee tickets that served on the 501 jeans back pocket, flashers which refers to the Grand Silver Medal Awarded by Mechanics’ Institute and Silver Medal Awarded by Cal. State Fair in honour of the jeans quality but I guess most people are more familiar with the black ball logo from the 90s.
