Aquascutum's iconic trenchcoats have been donned by prominent figures such as royalty, political leaders, and celebrities, including three Princes of Wales, Sir Winston Churchill, Baroness Thatcher, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, and Michael Caine. The British fashion brand has a rich heritage, dating back to 1851 when Mayfair's renowned John Emary established a men's store in Regent Street. A few years later, Emary patented a revolutionary technique for creating a water-resistant fabric, and thus Aquascutum was born, deriving its name from the Latin words for water and shield. The 'Aquascutum Wrapper' quickly became a staple in Mayfair, and during the Crimean war, British army officers relied on the brand's grey raincoats to endure the harsh Russian winter. In the late 1870s, Emary handed over control to Scantlebury & Commin, who further cemented Aquascutum.
